Adventure Time Comic Book - Secret Code

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 16, 2012, 12:46 AM
Okay, this is killing me! For those of you who rushed out and bought (or ordered online) the first issue of the Adventure Time Comic Book, you may have noticed that some of the pages have little messages at the bottoms. This is kinda cool as most of them are in light green English and have little notes about what was neat about that page in particular. HOWEVER! Page 12 is completely different! There appears to be a message written in a variant of a Pigpen Cipher, however try as I might I can't seem to crack the code. Please! You've got to help me out!

I copied the code down so you can look at it too.

s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.c…

[EDIT]

I feel kind of dumb for not realizing this at first... there are two red dots at the end... you know what they look like? The bite marks on Marceline's neck! I tested it out and the message is indeed signed -MARCELINE. Inputting the new characters into the code we have some of the blanks filled in!

As of now, my message looks something like this...

_ E _ _ _ _ _ I _ R _ M I _ E I _ I L L _ _ _ _ _ _ M _ R E N E _ _ I _ _ E - M A R C E L I N E

Assistance would be appreciated!

SPOILER ALERT!!! IF YOU WANTED TO SOLVE THIS PUZZLE BY YOURSELF DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT!!!

Nice job figuring that out! I noticed the two red dots and thought they might be a clue, but i never thought of Marceline.

I think you have a small mistake, though: the grids are in a different order, so i think it should be:

V|A|M
-----
P|I|R
-----
E|B|C

\D/
F G
/H\

J.|K.|.L
--------
N.|O.|.Q
--------
S'|T'|'U

\.W/
X. .Y
/'Z\

I can't figure out the alphabet code, and the link isn't working for me. =[ I used to write in a similar script with my friends for secret notes as a kid, but this layout isn't.making sense to me!!

It is exactly the same as a standard pigpen cypher, except the first 7 letters are VAMPIRE.

The cypher ought to look something like this

V|A|M
P|I|R

E|B|C

D.|F.|G.
H.|J.|K.

L.|N.|O.

\Q/
S T
/U\

\W./
X. Y.
/Z.\

Did you figure out the rest of the cipher after issue 3 (I think?)? I was kinda feeling dumb that I didn't realize the keyword was 'vampire' after figuring out the first one....

yeah, I figured it out... I was hoping in the 3rd comic they would have used a different cipher because I had a lot of fun solving the first, but alas no such luck.

Well maybe in another comic they'll do a code from Bubblegum or something, which would be a different cipher, obviously. ^_^

I bought this comic for my son, and was surprised to see this code. I used this code in the GAMERA 4-issue comics series I wrote for Dark Horse in the mid-90s, for the dialogue of an alien named Freena. I learned it myself when I was a kid.

This one is a slight variation, actually, with the letters switched around a bit. The code utilizes three simple figures, so it's easy to remember: 1. a tic-tac-toe board, 2. an X, and 3. a dot. The first 9 letters fit into the spaces in the t-t-t board (l-r, top-to-bottom), then the 10-13th letters in the spaces in the X (clockwise from the top). The 14th-22nd in the spaces in another t-t-t board--only this one with a dot in each space--and the last four in the spaces in the X, again with a dot in each space.

When I saw this message I tried my version of the code, but realized the letters had been moved (with the first four letters of the first t-t-t board being V-A-M-P-I-R-E).

Anyway, just wanted to chime in here! Check out the GAMERA series, if you can find it...
